Who's Who: Christopher Thompson

On weekdays we feature an interview with someone who lives, works or plays in El Cerrito or Kensington.

Name: Christopher Thompson

Age: “I’m not getting any younger”

Occupation: Research subject

You lived in El Cerrito? For two years, 2007 to December of '08. I came to the Mel-O-Dee tonight because my sister’s performing. She’s a comic. She does stand up.

Does she live in the area? No, she lives in Suisun (City). It’s about 30 minutes away. I hate it over there.

Do you miss it down here? I miss San Francisco. I miss it here. I used to live literally four blocks away, outside of Del Norte. I’m originally from San Francisco, but I haven’t lived there since probably ’01. I just  miss around here (El Cerrito) because it’s not like the city where it’s all compact. It’s cool to kind of mellow out. I was right outside the BART, so I heard the BART every five minutes. It was a nice apartment. The night life was cool; it’s right close to Berkeley and stuff so if you want to head out to Shattuck that’s cool.

What do you think of Mel-O-Dee? It’s cool. I came here about two years ago, prior to when I moved out of here. El Cerrito is a chill city. They’ve got a lot of stuff that San Francisco doesn’t have. It’s a cool place. And certainly that Suisun doesn’t have. Suisun is like, dead.

What moved you to Suisun? It’s a long story. I had to move back home with my mom, who moved there to be closer to my sister. Hopefully in a few months, if I don’t move to San Francisco, I’ll probably move back to El Cerrito. My landlord here was super cool.

What do you do for a living? Right now, I donate myself to research. I do a lot of studies. I literally came back from a study last week at General Hospital (in San Francisco), for diabetes. I was there for five days. ... I was going to school for music, for recording engineering. I don’t want to work a 9 to 5—I hate it.

For fun you do music? I’m going to make that my career as soon as I can get back into school. I make beats and stuff. But you really can’t just be, “I’m going to make music and make a living on that,” so that’s why I’m going to be a recording engineer, so I can fall back on a career.
