Weekend Things: Relay for Life, Kensington Music, Richmond Art, More

From salsa to social action, there's no shortage of great events to attend this weekend. Fight cancer with Relay for Life, celebrate Playland founder Richard Tuck and see what's new at the Richmond Art Center.

FRIDAY


Unlike Tatami Multi Arts' Salsa Singles Night, husbands, wives, boyfriends, girlfriends and partners are welcome for a night of salsa dancing. The lesson led by salsa teachers Haewon and Charles starts at 8 p.m. and dancers can practice their new moves starting at 9 p.m.

SATURDAY


Relay for Life is an annual event sponsored by the American Cancer Society and organized to celebrate cancer survivors, remember friends and family who were lost to the disease, and draw attention to the continuing fight for a cure. El Cerrito's celebration will include performances by two live bands, a Zumba lesson, karaoke and a luminaria lighting ceremony at dusk.

Join the community for a celebration of Richard Tuck, the late founder of Playland-Not-At-The-Beach. There will be tributes, stories, songs and magic on the stage in the parking lot, and square dancing later in the afternoon. Read more about Tuck in .

Check out the art that the students, faculty and members of the Richmond Art Center on Barrett Avenue have been making at the afternoon reception at the center. Three different galleries will feature 2010 Members' Show award winners, a faculty showcase and a special exhibit celebrating 40 years of drawing classes by Edward Stanton.

If you think the Allman Brothers and pop songstress K.T. Tunstall have nothing in common, think again! Tonal Recall, a harmonizing trio, will appear at the Kensington Circus Pub to bridge the gaps between these seemingly different artists. Come have a listen, a bite to eat and a pint.

SUNDAY


This Sunday's Social Action Forum will welcome a speaker from STAND! Against Domestic Violence, an organization dedicated to community-wide promotion of safe, stable and strong families. Earlier this month STAND! joined with the Family Stress Center (FSC) to create and even stronger organization and this is an opportunity to hear about their work.
