Weekend Things: Creek Clean-Up, Car Clean-Up and Folk Songs
This weekend, help clean up Baxter Creek, get your car washed, hear a legendary folk singer on tour from England, treat your dog to a special festival and learn how a mindful attitude can help students.
Come out to Baxter Creek Gateway Park to help clean up the trash around the creek. If this is your first time volunteering for El Cerrito Green Teams, you can register here and learn about future clean-up events. After the two-hour work session, join the volunteers at a local eatery for a no-host lunch.

The new school year is still a month away, but it's never too early to start fundraising with a car wash, especially with all the summer dust that's settled on your car from the last camping trip. Your car wash will help support activities for the class of 2012.

Down Home Music is hosting yet another folk legend for an acoustic concert right inside the store. Leon Rosselon makes his home in England, but he is currently on tour in the United States and will be stopping by for a free show.

This event is a highlight on many pet-lovers' calendars as it raises funds for the Berkeley-East Bay Humane Society. It will feature dog contests such as a Doggy Olympiad and the Lead Dog Contest. There will also be craft tables to keep the day busy and fun for kids.

This Sunday's guest speaker is Michael Hagerty, a professor at UC Davis and a board member of Mindful Schools, a program that uses stress reduction and relaxation exercises in schools to reduce problems such as impulsiveness and lack of focus.
