Weekend Things: Carrotmob, E-Waste, TEPCO Pottery Talk and More

Here is what's happening this weekend in El Cerrito and beyond — rain or shine.

Friday


  • 's Dance Department will show off their dance and choreography skills in this two-night event  Thursday and Friday. The performance starts at 7:30 p.m. Thursday and 8:30 p.m.  Friday.
    How much: Free


  • Carrotmob is a push for local businesses go to green. Come by the , on June 3 between 3:30 p.m. and 7 p.m., and their profits will be donated to making their business greener. Profits will go for a bike rack and other equipment, and also toward discounts on purchases for those who bike to the cafe.

  • Every first Friday of the month is bike day at the Ashkenaz. If you're enthusiastic about your bike and feel like learning a traditional Greek dance, ride down San Pablo Avenue to meet other like-minded folk. Ziyia will provide the music after a dance lesson taught by Caroline Simmonds.
    How much: $13, general; $10, students


  • Every Friday evening you can enjoy live music at as you unwind from the week. This week hear rock music with The Jumpin' Fish as you enjoy a glass of wine or a beer from their nice selection of beverages.

    Saturday


    • Come and see artwork in the place that it is created - right in the artists' studios this Saturday and Sunday. Studios are open all over El Cerrito and Kensington and you can read about one such artist in this .

    • Got old electronics? You can finally get rid of those things at the El Cerrito DMV this Saturday and Sunday. This event isn't just for electronics – you can bring your books, clothes, shoes and accessories too.
      How much: Free, except for “Pay to Recycle” items for which you will need cash.


  • The will be joined by the Unitarian Universalist Church of Berkeley Luminescence Chorus and the Masterworks Chorale of San Mateo for an evening of Romantic music which will include works by Rachmaninoff, Dvorak, Brahms and Beethoven.
    How much: $14-$20 (no one turned away for lack of funds)

    • You may be surprised to hear the Choir sing James Taylor songs, but it's all in a day's work for this group. They will present a varied program of spiritual songs and well known classics.
