Weekend Things: Theater, Kids Park Crawl, Library Book Sale, School Auction, More

Grab your bike and go on a group ride, pick up some new reading at the El Cerrito Library, see a new play or enjoy any of the other activities listed here.

Here is what the weekend has in store for you. 

Friday


  • View the newest exporations from Joanna Katz. For this show she combines human-made discarded materials and manipulates them on the computer to come up with "nests.” Meet the artist, 7-9 p.m.

  • If you've wondered why the popular East Bay Bike Party rarely comes up to the northern part of the East Bay, wonder no more. This month's ride leaves from El Cerrito Plaza BART and ends with a night of bowling at Albany Bowl. Grab your bike and helmet and join in the fun.
    Pricing: Free


  • This next production from Contra Costa Civic Theatre premieres this weekend. This play is about three sisters who, despite growing up in a dysfunctional home, persevere and find ways to have fun through it all.
    Pricing: $18; $11 age 16 and under

    Saturday


    • Tired of all your books? Come pick up some new ones at the El Cerrito Library from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. All books are just 5¢.


  • From the organizers of the East Bay Bike Party comes the first-ever daytime party for kids, families and beginners. The ride will start in San Pablo Park and will ride through some of the East Bay's favorite parks. Bring snacks.
    Pricing: Free


  • This year's theme of the annual auction is “Madera: A Dream.” The dress code at this affair is black and white, and the evening includes food, drinks, dancing and bidding on some really great stuff.
    Pricing: $35 per ticket; two for $60; $40 at the door

  • Sunday


    • Heidi Rand will lead a workshop at Canyon Trail Art Center in altering your photographs into new works of art with software techniques achieved on the computer. Pre-registration is required.
      Pricing: $50


    • If you're a true home and garden junkie and feel like venturing out to Concord, the 26th annual spring show will be in full bloom at the Sleep Train Pavilion through the tunnel.
      Pricing: $6, general; free to children under 12; $6 parking
