Weekend: Solano Stroll, Outdoor Movies, Mark Twain and More

Events this weekend include a choice of movie for the kids, music to kick your shoes up to for adults and Mark Twain for all, not to mention the Solano Stroll. Enjoy!

FRIDAY


Grab a blanket and bring the family to see this heartwarming movie about a young boy who dreams of hunting dragons only to find himself befriending a dragon and learning that there's more to them than meets the eye. Come early if you want a good spot.

Everybody wins this Friday at the Arlington Cafe with Kensington's own jazz band, Acting Up will be performing a show while the kids can watch Toy Story 3 outdoors. There's plenty to eat and drink so bring the family to unwind after the week.

The Point Richmond Summer Concert Series will feature two acoustic bands this Friday. For the salsa kings and queens, there is Lava, a Latin jazz, funk and salsa band. Right before them Taarka, a gypsy chamber folk band that delves into jazz, bluegrass and sometimes even Indian music. Yep, it's a jam band and a good one at that.

SATURDAY


Have a hot rod? How about a vintage bicycle? Any classic transport is welcome this Saturday night at the The Baltic in Point Richmond where the “jukebox” spun by DJ VidaLees will be playing the hits of the '50s and '60s and you can rave about your ride to your heart's desire.

Kensington Library's celebration of Mark Twain kicks off with a talk by Linda Rugg, professor in the Scandinavian Department at UC Berkeley who will speak about Twain's literature. This event is part of Kensington Reads: One City, One Book, a program aimed at unifying cities through reading.

SUNDAY

SOLANO STROLL 2011
Said to be the biggest street fair in the East Bay, if not the Bay Area, the Solano stroll draws tens of thousands of people each year to packed Solano Avenue, lined with booths featuring an amazing range of local organizations and businesses. Not to be missed is the parade. (And of course the Patch booth!)

If you've had your eye on a half marathon, this 13.1 mile run is great practice. Meet the others on the grass at Ohlone Greenway and Fairmount Avenue for a marathon that will take you from the suburbs to the coast.

Pack 104 of the Boy Scouts is having no ordinary pasta feed. The pasta and meatballs at this fundraiser will be prepared by a recent California Culinary Academy graduate and the community is invited to raise money for the Pack's Pinewood Derby.
