This week, we suggest where you can eat a meal, stay the night or explore wide open spaces at a local "staycation."

Living in El Cerrito comes with many luxuries, including great outdoor activities, restaurants and bed and breakfasts nearby for a short, local getaway. This week we have created a list of five places very close to El Cerrito, where you can eat a meal, stay the night or explore wide open spaces.

  • East Brother Light Station: A lighthouse for 133 years, the Inn opened operations as a bed and breakfast 26 years ago and continues to be a destination for people from all over the world. This unique destination combines a “lighthouse bed & breakfast” and an “island B&B.”
  • Hotel Mac: Another destination quite close by, this hotel in Point Richmond offers deluxe suites as well as elegance and warmth to visitors. Amenities include television, robes, queen-sized beds and refrigerators in rooms. The hotel also features a restaurant and bar.
  • Mary’s Bed and Breakfast: An early Craftsman house built in 1911 and listed with the Berkeley Architectural Heritage Association, this bed and breakfast is maintained by Mary Harrow in the Claremont District where ample views of the bay abound. This vacation or weekend-away destination is located near beautiful homes and gardens, scenic walks, easy parking, shops, and renowned restaurants.
  • Tilden Regional Park: This is one of the oldest parks in the Bay Area and has many miles of trails and destinations, including the botanical gardens, Lake Anza and a petting zoo. With 2,079 acres, the park also offers camping facilities for organized groups. For camping, phone 1-888-EBPARKS or 1-888-327-2757, press option 2, then 1 to make a reservation.
  • Rose Garden Inn: For a romantic getaway, the Rose Garden Inn is located in a historic mansion within walking distance of the UC Berkeley campus. The Inn offers beautiful gardens to meander in, a complimentary breakfast and free Internet for guests.
