Update: BART Recovers From Major Systemwide Delay

Normal service was restored around 10 a.m.

Mechanical problems with a BART train caused systemwide delays of up to 30 minutes this morning, a BART spokeswoman said.

Delays were down to 10 to 15 minutes by about 9:15 a.m., and normal service was restored by about 10 a.m. (Check BART service advisories.)

An SFO-bound train with 10 people on board became disabled at 7:22 a.m. between BART's Balboa Park and Daly City stations, spokeswoman Luna Salaver said. Another train came to take the passengers off the disabled train at about 8:30 a.m. and BART crews cleared the train from the trackway at 8:48 a.m., Salaver said.

BART service between the East Bay and San Francisco was delayed for about 10 minutes as of 8:50 a.m., while trains between the 24th Street Mission and San Francisco International Airport stations were delayed by as much as 30 minutes, according to Salaver.

The spokeswoman said earlier that normal service could resume as soon as 9:10 a.m.
