How to Recycle the Tannenbaum

El Cerrito residents can leave Christmas trees next to green waste bins on pick-up days until Jan. 18, the city says. Trees must be unflocked and without decorations. The hauling company prefers they be cut and placed in the bins if possible.

If you live in El Cerrito, you can leave your discarded Christmas tree next to your green waste bin to be collected on your pick-up day until Jan. 18, according to city officials.

All trees must be natural and unflocked, with all tinsel and other decorations removed. You can leave them next to the recycling bin, though the city's trash hauler – East Bay Sanitary – asks that they be cut and placed in the bins if possible.

A notice on the city website says, "Just put your tree out next to your green waste cart on your regular collection day. EBS requests that trees be cut to size and placed in the green waste cart if possible."
