Get Out, El Cerrito! Pee-Wee, Orchestra, Black History, More...

Every Thursday, El Cerrito Patch brings you the best picks for things to do during the weekend. Get out and enjoy!

Pee-Wee, African-American history, a symphony orchestra performance, fabric printing, and a movie at Mel-o-dee with some friendly bartenders. Here's what the weekend has in store for you. 


  • Where/When:

    Why Go: The Tequila Song and those fabulous shoes he wears. Oh, and the gypsy. And the Alamo! And... the motorcycle gang... and the bike, of course. So many reasons! The real question is, why not go?

  • Where/When:
    The Black Repertory Theater, 3201 Adeline St., Berkeley. Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
    Why Go: During the Great Migration, thousands of African Americans from came to the Bay Area from Southern states to work in the shipyards, bringing with them a rich culture that was key to creating the diverse community of the Bay Area. Learn about their history in this moderated panel.

    , 540 Ashbury Ave., El Cerrito. Saturday, 8-10 p.m.
    Why Go: This collaboration of the Kensington Symphony Orchestra, Golden Gate Philharmonic Camerata and the Golden Gate Philharmonic Youth Orchestra will present pieces by British composers from early to mid-20th century.
    Pricing: General $15; students/seniors $12; children under 12, free; El Cerrito H.S. students, free; ECHS faculty and staff, $7.50


  • Where/When:
    , 6757 Gatto Ave., El Cerrito. Sunday, 12-3:30 p.m.
    Why Go: Making your own printed fabric may sound complicated, but this workshop will show you how it can be done with an inkjet printer. Heidi Rand of Garden Delights Arts & Crafts will teach the class.
    Pricing: $40, plus supplies
