Get Out: Dads' Jazz, Spring-Welcoming Concert, Bakesale for Japan, Crab for Football, Writer for Kids

Hear a local dads' jazz band, see a variety of acts at a spring concert, buy some baked goods to help out Japan, let your kids meet a favorite author and get your fill of crab.

Every Thursday, El Cerrito Patch brings a few local options for you to get out and enjoy.

    , 269 Arlington Ave., Kensington. Friday, 6:30 p.m.
    Why Go: The Dads' Club of PTA has a jazz band appropriately named Acting Up. This Friday the PTA will gather around for a happy hour to honor the club and listen to some of their tunes.

  • Where/When:
    , 10016 San Pablo Ave., El Cerrito. Friday, 8 p.m.
    Why Go: Join Freedom Performance Art Center in welcoming spring with songs, poetry, Hawaiian dance and African Drumming. Refreshments will be served at this event.
    Pricing: $10 in advance; $15 at the door

  • Where/When: Gioia Pizzeria, 1586 Hopkins St., Berkeley. Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
    Why Go: Bake something or just come and enjoy homemade baked goodies at this amazing nationwide effort born right next door in Berkeley. Get your fill of sweets while raising money for the victims of Japan's earthquake and tsunami.
    Pricing: All the sweet goods you can purchase and eat. Otherwise, free.

      Why Go: Bring your kids to hear Berkeley author Marissa Moss as she reads from her latest book, Nurse, Soldier, Spy. It is a true story of Sarah Emma Edmonds who disguised herself as a man to fight in the Civil War.

      , 7007 Moeser Ln., El Cerrito, Saturday, 6-9 p.m.
      Why Go: Chow down on some crab and listen to the mixed creations of DJ Lankston while supporting Gaucho Football.
