Get Out: 2 Film Events, Breakfast With a Supe, Art, New Orleans Benefit

Every Thursday, El Cerrito Patch brings offers options for you to get out and enjoy.

So much to do this weekend! An artist reception, breakfast with your county supervisor, an eco-film, a film festival and a benefit concert. I recommend checking out the calendar for even more events to attend this weekend, all right here in El Cerrito and Kensington.


  • Where/When:
    , 540 Ashbury Ave., El Cerrito. Saturday, 7:30-10 p.m.
    Why Go: This short film festival highlights local female filmmakers and aims to promote awareness about women's issues today. The fundraiser will benefit the Breast Cancer Fund, the El Cerrito High School Leadership Club and World Neighbors. Want a discount? Check out the Goldstar coupon for the festival.
    Pricing: General tickets are $20 in advance, and $25 at door

  • Where/When:
    , 10070 San Pablo Ave., El Cerrito. Saturday, 10-11:30 a.m.
    Why Go: This film series is presented by the El Cerrito Environmental Quality Committee and in this installment, a local filmmaker documents her adventures in urban public transportation. A panel follows with filmmaker Gabriela Quiros, City Councilwoman Janet Abelson, bus driver Anthony Rogers and Carl Anthony of Breakthrough Communities.

  • Where/When:
    The Arlington Cafe, 269 Arlington Blvd., Kensington. Saturday, 9-10:30 a.m., followed by a walk.
    Why Go: It's a chance to meet your county supervisor (an El Cerrito native) and ask your questions about County issues. Afterwards, enjoy a walk in Kensington's pathways.

  • Where/When:
    , 7025 Stockton Ave., El Cerrito. Friday, 7-9 p.m.
    Why Go:
    In her collage acrylics, Rusnak reshapes old canvases to bring them back to life with glaze, paint and fragments of other materials to create multidimensional works. See the show and ask her about her work process on Friday evening.

  • Where/When:
    , 780 Ashbury Ave., El Cerrito. Sunday, 3-5 p.m.
    Why Go: This will be Mira Vista's fifth year helping out with rebuilding efforts in New Orleans. Help them get there by attending this benefit concert which will include singing, dancing, a silent auction and refreshments.
