Final meetings to discuss EBMUD pipeline project for El Cerrito, other cities begin tonight - June 19

One of two final, public meetings to discuss the West of Hills Northern Pipelines Project will take place at 6 p.m. tonight, Wednesday, June 19, at Maple Hall, 13831 San Pablo Ave. in San Pablo.

The final meeting also is at 6 p.m. next Wednesday, June 26, at El Cerrito High School, 540 Ashbury Ave.

The pipelines project – planned by the East Bay Municipal Utilities District – involves 8.5 miles of 48- and 36-inch pipelines and is intended "to correct existing deficiencies in water transmission and storage operations, meet future water demands, improve system reliability and water quality challenges, and facilitate repair and replacement of other aging infrastructure," according to the district and reported by West County Times.

The water district says the pipeline is needed to ensure continued reliable water service to customers in unincorporated communities of West Contra Costa and several East Bay cities, including El Cerrito.

The draft environmental impact report for the project can be viewed through July 2 at EBMUD offices, 375 11th St. in Oakland; the Berkeley Public Library, 2940 Benvenue Ave.; El Cerrito Library, 6510 Stockton Ave.; San Pablo Library, 2300 El Portal Drive, Suite D; and Richmond Library, 325 Civic Center Plaza.
