El Cerrito to spend $25K on library survey
City residents may soon be asked their views on an ideal size and structure for a new library following a City Council decision to spend $25,000 on the “needs assessment” survey.
The assessment – which would have a life span of about three to four years, allowing time to find the money for construction, according to assistant City Manager Karen Pinkos, as reported by West County Times – would also determine how to apply advances in library technology.
The Council decision came on the same night it passed a stripped-down $45.8 million 2013-14 budget with minimal changes from a proposed budget it reviewed earlier in the month.

The current library, at 6510 Stockton Ave., opened in 1949 and was renovated once in 1960. It has been identified as woefully inadequate by community groups, including Friends of the El Cerrito Library, the Times reports.
