El Cerrito Population Grew By 0.5 Percent Last Year

New state reports shows El Cerrito's population is now near 24,000

El Cerrito's population increased by 0.5 percent last year.

Figures released by the state Department of Finance show El Cerrito added about 100 residents, increasing its population to 23,910 as of Jan. 1.

El Cerrito is the fifth smallest of Contra Costa's 19 incorporated cities. It's similar in size to Hercules and Lafayette.

Concord is the largest city in the county with more than 123,000 people. The smallest city is next door in Clayton, which has slightly more than 11,000 people.

Contra Costa County's population grew by 0.8 percent last year to 1,074,072.

Over in Alameda County, Dublin had the second highest growth rate in California with 6.8 percent.

California's population increased by 0.8 percent to 37,966,471.
