UPDATE: El Cerrito del Norte BART Station Reopened

BART police determined that the suspicious item spotted on the tracks was innocuous.

-Bay City News

UPDATE, 2:25 p.m.: BART officials reopened El Cerrito del Norte and Richmond stations after determining that a suspicious item seen on the tracks didn't pose a danger.

Richmond and El Cerrito BART stations are closed as police investigate a suspicious package observed on the tracks, according to BART police.

The suspicious package was spotted on the track-way at the El Cerrito del Norte station around noon, prompting police to shut down the station, BART police said.

BART police have also closed the Richmond and El Cerrito Plaza stations as they conduct an investigation.

Passengers headed to El Cerrito Plaza are advised to check with station agents about BART buses available to shuttle them to other nearby stations, according to BART police.

Delays of up to 20 minutes on the Richmond BART line are expected.

More than nine hours later, the Patch still hs the "breaking news" banner head about BART shut own. FYI: the railroad was back to normal about two hours or less after the suspicious object was noticed. Somebody inform this Internet news site. What was not disclosed: what the object actually was. (That would be good reporting.) most likely, someone's old laundry, lunch, or similar.
