Daily 5: Committee on Aging, Earthquake Preparedness, Greening the Skyscrapers and More

The "Daily 5" lets you know what's going on in and around El Cerrito.

1. The meets today at 3 p.m. at . The committee works towards long-term goals such as affordable housing options and increased support services to assist frail older adults and their families. New business on the agenda today includes subcommittee assignments and a discussion of committee membership and attendance. 

2. The meets tonight, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. El Cerrito Fire Battalion Chief David Gibson will be on hand to answer questions. With the United States Geological Survey (USGS) predicting the odds of a major earthquake striking the Bay Area before 2032 being 63 percent, the meeting should be a good opportunity to learn about what the network and fire department are doing to help prepare the city.

3. Over in Richmond, tonight is the , held at the Lavonya DeJean Middle School Multipurpose Room. Among the many items on the agenda are a budget update for the Governor's proposed budget. The meeting starts at 6:30 p.m.

4. For those who fancy a good foxtrot, the  is hosting the  from 1 to 4 p.m. today. There will be light refreshments. The price is $4.

5. The plans an outing Thursday morning for walkers aged 50 and up. The event invites you to discover "greening the skyscrapers" by touring various unexpected walkways and gardens around downtown San Francisco. Meet at North Berkeley BART to take the 9:08 train to Montgomery Street Station. You can call 510-599-4709 if you miss the train, however. There's no set return time, with an optional lunch afterwards.
