Corrections & Clarifications

Recent corrections and clarifications in El Cerrito Patch.

We're committed to accuracy, to acknowledging our mistakes, and to fixing them as quickly as possible. In stories where errors have been fixed, we note the correction in italics at the top or bottom of the story.

Here are recent corrections and clarifications:

- Correction: An article published June 21,"," and some accompanying photo captions misspelled the first name of the first-place winner of the El Cerrito Garden Club awards. The correct spellng is Sahdu Mannell. The article and captions have been corrected.

- Correction: An article published June 13, "," mistakenly said that Marsha Conwill recalled the two sisters, Michiko and Akiko, running the florist shop and living in two adjacent houses. It was Michiko and Clara. The article has been corrected.

- Correction: An article published June 10, "," incorrectly reported that a letter from Lewis Figone, president of Bay View Refuse, said Republic Services is prepared to proceed as soon as possible but no later than Jan. 1, 2012, on taking over Kensington's trash-hauling contract. The letter was referring not to the readiness of Republic Services, but to that of Bay View Refuse to turn the contract over. The article has been corrected.

- Correction: A story published May 24 on El Cerrito Patch about , which was first published May 13 on Albany Patch, quotes a source saying the body of Albert Einstein's granddaughter, Evelyn Einstein, "lies in repose at Sunset (View) Cemetery." The original headline on the El Cerrito Patch version said she is at Sunset View, but the cemetery president, Michael Klinger, told El Cerrito Patch on May 25 that her remains were not currently at Sunset View. A memorial service for her is tentatively planned at the cemetery in June, Klinger said. The headline and story on El Cerrito Patch have been changed to include the information he provided.

- Correction: A May 21 article, "," incorrectly reported that Ragged Wing Ensemble staged a show called Persephone's Bees at Live Oak Park in Berkeley last summer. The production's title was Persephone's Roots, and it was performed in Codornices Park. The article has been corrected.

- Correction and clarifications:

A May 17 article, "," had the wrong title for Assistant City Manager Karen Pinkos. It has been corrected.

The article also said attorney Inga Lintvedt has been engaged by the city to look at the issue. Lintvedt is designated as the Assistant City Attorney and works under contract. She has been advising the city on the icons. The article also said it's not clear if any action is contemplated by the commission. Pinkos told Patch that the icons item is not an action item and that any action by the commission would come at a future meeting. The article has been revised to incorporate these clarifications.

- Correction: An article published May 10, "," incorrectly said new sidewalk markers being installed on San Pablo Avenue are made of metal. They're made of precast concrete. The article has been corrected.

- Correction: An article published April 13, "," incorrectly reported that most of the traffic collisions involving serious injury in El Cerrito were caused by violating the pedestrian right of way. Violating the pedestrian right of way was the leading cause, responsible for 18 percent of such accidents. The story also incorrectly reported that most injury-causing accidents in Albany were caused violating the pedestrian right-of-way or driving under the influence of of alcohol or drugs. Those two factors were the leading causes, each responsible for 20 percent of the collisions. The story has been corrected.

- Correction: Photo captions in our directory listing for misspelled the last name of photographer Cyndi Kuiper and the name of her studio, Chickpea Photography Studio. The errors have been corrected.

- Correction: In a video published April 5 about "Messy Art Day" at the El Cerrito Preschool Co-op, preschool teacher Jenny Byrne was incorrectly identified as Beth Berlin-Stephens. The video has been corrected.
