Off the Grid rolls into El Cerrito

Good food intersects with a family night out here in El Cerrito this Wednesday evening July 10th on Fairmount Ave, between San Pablo Ave and Carlson Blvd.  Off the Grid, the Bay Area’s most prolific network of street food markets, rolls into El Cerrito this week for its launch.

Live music will also be provided and in future weeks Off the Grid hopes that local musicians from El Cerrito and beyond could provide some of the beats.  Similar to most of Off the Grid's markets, there will be no alcohol sold, or allowed.

I have been a fan of Off the Grid since their early days in 2010 in San Francisco.  As an organization they are committed to a quality, community experience through good food.  The local music vibe, the diversity of the food choices and the (usually) owner-operated staff go a long way in keeping the practice of 'mom-and-pop shops' alive and well (albeit, on wheels).

Off the Grid: El Cerrito will offer varied offerings from a rotating list of 10 trucks.  Featured trucks this Wednesday, July 10 will be: KoJa Kitchen(Korean BBQ), WhipOut! (Sliders),  An the Go(Garlic Noodles), Blue Saigon Truck (Banh mi), Go Streatery(Peasant food), Kung Fu Tacos (Chinese/Mexican), Sanguchon(Peruvian), Twister Truck (Mexican), Arki (Chicken/Donuts) and Kara's Cupcakes.

The food fare will continue every Wednesday from 5p-9p accompanied by good music, chairs  and tents and biodegradable cups/plates in an effort to keep El Cerrito green.  Street parking is available as well as parking offered at Mechanics Bank on the East side of San Pablo Ave.

Currently, Off the Grid operates 22 weekly markets in the greater Bay Area, and works with nearly 180+ vendors weekly.  El Cerrito seems like a great place for street food, and only 5 minutes walking from the BART station is a good location for nearby residents to leave their cars at home.

Check here for all of Off the Grid's vendor trucks (although only a selection will be in El Cerrito on Wednesdays 5p-9p.
