Stockton Ave. Art Stroll Revived

The Stockton Avenue Art Stroll – a Friday night open-house party by merchants, artists and musicians on upper Stockton Avenue in El Cerrito – is being revived with two strolls planned for this year – May 10 and Sept. 13.

The Stocton Avenue Art Stroll will come out of hibernation on Friday night, May 10.

The festive event, which began in 2008 and took a break last year, has featured local shops opening their doors late, food and beverage treats, live music and local artists displaying their wares on the sidewalk.

"We are bringing it back after a year off," said one of the organiziers, Jen Komaromi, who owns the Jenny K gift shop and the Well Grounded cafe next door on Stockton.

"With the expansion of the district to include more retail businesses and our own expansion, i.e. more space to hold people, we decided to bring it back," she said.  "Before we were feeling too constricted by our lack of space and felt that we had a lack of active merchants.  With the addition of Hibiscus Spa, Integrative Therapies and Adorn & Flourish we feel that we have a larger number of active participating venues, making it easier to accommodate the number of visitors that were enjoying the stroll."

The event, from 6-9 p.m., is free to all who want to attend, and those interested in participating are urged to contact Kathleen Glenn, owner of The Glenn Custom Framing on Stockton, at 510-558-1078 as soon as possible.

Another art stroll will be held Sept. 13, also 6-9 p.m.
