Patch Readers Help Rename Arlington Pharmacy

When Patch ran an article about the Arlington Pharmacy in Kensington seeking a new name after it ceased fllling prescriptions for medications, readers chimed in with several suggestions that led to the new choice, owner Wing Gee said.

Thanks to suggestions from Patch readers, the Arlington Pharmacy has a new name.

When the Arlington Pharmacy ended more than 80 years of filling prescriptions on Jan. 8, owner Wing Gee told Patch he was looking for a new name since the store would no longer operate as a pharmacy.

Patch asked readers for suggestions, and Gee told Patch Friday that the responses gave him the idea for the new name:

Arlington General Store & Post.

"It was very good input that people put into your little Patch," he told Patch Friday, the day he put up a big sign in the window announcing the new name and a "Grand Opening Party" on March 9 to celebrate it.

The "post" part of the name comes from the locally famous community post office located inside the business.

"People suggested having a post office and general store in there (the name)," Gee said. "We read the article, so I took them up on it."

"These are good ideas," he added. "They were really great."

The new name hasn't gone up on the business awning sign outside yet. Gee said he needs to work with the building owner on changing the sign.

The Grand Opening Party will be held Saturday, March 9, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and will feature food and refreshments, local artists, tai chi, and free consultations on physical therapy and traditional Chinese medicine. See the attached flyer for the times of specific activities.
