Panel Urges Local Businesses to Engage With Social Media

More than two dozen people turned out for a spirited discussion on "Utilizing Social Media for Business" at an 8 a.m. panel at El Cerrito City Hall Tuesday.

The early hour and gray skies didn't seem to put a damper on the lively discussion at City Hall Tuesday on how local businesses can use social media and blogs.

The 8 a.m. "" panel drew more than two dozen business people who peppered the panelists with how-to questions on taking advantage of Facebook, Twitter and other social media.

A couple of audience members expressed skepticism about the value of investing time and money in such tools, while the four panel members—including three who run businesses offering internet-support services—argued that online engagement is not only valuable now but is becoming more so as time goes on.
