Go Ahead — It's Organic

At the Kensington Farmers' Market every Sunday, Tara's Organic Ice Cream offers a unique array of handmade ice cream flavors that differ every week.

It started when Tara Esperanza began making organic ice cream out of her home in New Mexico. The idea quickly grew from a tasty treat for her family into a small "underground operation." In 2005, Tara's Organic Ice Cream was established. The company moved to Berkeley in August of 2008 in order to be closer to suppliers.

Tara and her stand have been regulars at the since April, the only market she attends. The company sells organic ice cream made daily from local ingredients, in a wide variety of flavors that change every week. A sorbet and a basic chocolate or vanilla are always offered. This past week's flavors included Blackberry, Chocolate, Lemon Verbena, Lime Agave Sorbet and the bestselling White Peach. In addition, other flavors are available by the pint in pre-packaged containers.
