Video: Martin Luther King Jr. – "I Have a Dream" Speech

In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day today, Jan. 16, we are featuring a video of King's famous 17-minute speech delivered at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C., on Aug. 28, 1963.

The "I Have a Dream" speech by Martin Luther King Jr. on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial on Aug. 28, 1963 marked a significant milestone in the Civil Rights Movement and is remembered as one of the greatest speeches of the 20th century. One hundred years after Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation, King's soaring oratory climaxed a massive March on Washington that called for equal opportunity and freedom for all.

Thank you so much for posting this! I used my smart phone last Friday to play this entire speech to my 2nd grade class at Hanna Ranch Elementary School in Hercules. I feel like we live the dream each day, in my classroom, in our school, and in our community. As many have pointed out we have more work to do to fulfill our nation's pledge of liberty and justice for all.

I felt the power of his speech and the hairs on my neck rose up and i felt the passion of his words. We as a people need to apply this our everyday lives, and have compassion for each other as he did. I wished i could have met this great man.
