YMTC's production features teens playing teens and adults playing the adult roles.

CCCT's production features adults playing the teen roles.

Cast members from both productions will join moderator, Bay Area Actress Nancy Carlin, to discuss the phenomenon of playing age on stage.

WE'RE GONNA RUMBLE IN EL CERRITO THIS SUMMER!

This classical and enduring musical--called by many the greatest American musical ever written-- is being produced with some of the Bay Area's finest young performing artists. The teenaged characters, who are at the heart of this story, will be portrayed by teenagers, and the adults who surround their lives will be played by adults.

YMTC is thrilled to bring this profoundly moving story, based on Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet--about the power of love in an atmosphere of racism, hate and violence--to our loyal audiences and newcomers alike.

Featuring a full, live 32 piece orchestra under the direction of award-winning music director Dave Moschler.

CCCT (Contra Costa Civic Theater), just blocks away, is also producing West Side Story.  Both of our shows open on July 13.  In the spirit of collaboration and learning, both companies are participating in some joint events.

In particular, there will be an audience talk-balk after the YMTC matinee performance on July 15th, featuring a discussion with directors and cast members from both productions. This will be moderated by Bay Area actress Nancy Carlin who will lead a discussion on:  The Phenomenon of Playing Age on Stage.

YMTC is a non-profit, Berkeley-based company that produces professional caliber musical theater while providing exceptional theater training to students from the 7th grade through university level.  We bring together the Bay Area's most talented and dedicated young singer/actors with professional directors, designers, and musicians to create theater that takes on challenging and sophisticated musical and dramatic themes, and that is always accompanied by a full, live orchestra.

Was that what i heard in the middle of the night on Wednesday? I thought i was dreaming. It soundedRead More like some sort of loudspeaker.

I've spoken with him, he is educated, intelligent and articulate. He is also angry and sometimesRead More irrational. I dont know his story but his "street art" stands on its own legs. If you would like to help him, and yourself, buy and enjoy his art.

A neighbor of mine on Colusa tried to give him food when he was on Colusa, but he refused, so IRead More never tried. Dorothy, is that the shelter near the Berkeley Historical Society/Veteran's Building? Perhaps he would need a ride to it. Perhaps he's concerned about leaving his things there if he can't be there during the day. I'm afraid I don't know enough about it.

I did mention that I'm donating 10% of my royalties for "Midnight" to the EC's Open SpaceRead More fund, didn't I? I'm a Down-home Ten Percenter.

Lucy, I like the idea in principal, but in reality I think it would just give ECPD more work to do.Read More "People hanging out" doesn't necessarily translate to a friendly,fun-filled, folksy kind of environment. It *can* mean quite the reverse. "Midnight On the Ohlone" sounds like a new recording. Something like "I left my little babeeeeee, down by the tracks....and now I want her back....she's a needle in the haaaaaaay staaaaack...' Arhoolie awaits.

What a great idea for pocket parks!!! I am all for them. Instead of spening a big amount on oneRead More (which we don't have space anyway), I would like to see many mini parks of $20,000 along the Bart tracks. With more visibility and people hanging out, it would make Bart paths safer too, especially the one around fairmont park. Really mini pocket parks just needs some play structures, benches and tables there.
