Please join us for an evening of traditional Swedish folk music with local musician Mark Walstrom and his daughter, soprano singer Jennie. Mr. Walstrom has taught, played and studied this art form for many years. Both he and Jennie are accomplished vocal musicians. Their instruments include the Swedish Säckpipa (bagpipe) and Nyckelharpa (key fiddle).
Tonight’s music will center on the Swedish winter holidays. These celebrations developed from pre-Christian times and are based on the winter solstice and darkness. The Säckpipa and Nyckelharpa are uniquely Swedish instruments with a history dating back to the Middle Ages. Both are expressive instruments with a repertoire not often heard.
