Free Folk Festival Fills the Fall Air with Music

The annual El Cerrito Free Folk Festival attracted dozens of artists and music groups for a lively day of performances and workshops at Windrush School.

Jug bands and harmonicas, banjos and guitars, even Beatles music echoed from an El Cerrito hillside Saturday as music fans and musicians gathered at for the annual .

The San Francisco Folk Music Club sponsored the event along with The City of El Cerrito Arts and Culture Commission, The Hellman Family Foundation and Windrush School, which donated the use of its facilities.

More than 50 artists and music groups attended the free event, held to promote the arts. The festival included live performances, jam sessions and workshops. Joe Caldora and Jennine Menger explored the music of the Beatles in a structured jam session. Brad Bechtel led a Hawaiian jam session that included Hawaiian songs for guitar and ukulele.
