Spend Saturday Seeing Art

This Saturday will be a great opportunity to see new art, meet a winning yachtsman artist and enjoy live music and delicious treats. The NIAD Art Center and Richmond Art Center are both hosting receptions for new art exhibitions.

NIAD Art Center will be celebrating two new exhibitions and a pop-up shop. View new works in ‘Serenade: Lists, Poems And Missives,’ a group show with paintings and drawings that incorporate writing; explore silkscreened collage in ‘A Brief History Of Nowhere: Recent Work From Mark Taylor’; and feed your inner-clothes horse in ‘Yes To The Dress’ the latest pop-up shop featuring lively couture which is organized by artist and designer Peter Gravener. The opening reception happens this Saturday, July 20 from 12:30-3:00 pm, with the return of the Holy Cow Coffee truck, free kettle corn from Endless Summer Sweets and live music from Quintessence. Plan on hanging out for a sweet afternoon! Opening Reception: Saturday, July 20, 12:30-3pm, NIAD Art Center, 551 23rd Street, Richmond. More information at 510-620-0326 or niadart.org.

The Richmond Art Center is bringing the thrill of the prestigious America’s Cup to the East Bay with the exhibition ‘Race for the Cup.’ Come see paintings of Bay Area yacht racing by Richmond’s own artist and artist-in-residence for the 34th America's Cup, Jim Dewitt. Dewitt’s bold and expressive paintings of Bay Area yacht racing are on display with compelling photographs by Daniel Forster, a pre-eminent photographer of past America's Cup races. The exhibit also includes artifacts, such as trophies, from previous races. This timely tribute to the America’s Cup is a unique opportunity to meet local artist Jim Dewitt, who is also the winner of the prestigious 1963 Clifford Mallory Cup, and to hear live music by by jazz singer Ellen Robinson. Special Reception: Saturday, July 20, 5-7pm at the Richmond Art Center, 2540 Barrett Avenue, Richmond. More information at 510-620-6772 or therac.org.
