Local Artists in Richmond Art Center Summer Exhibitions

This Saturday, June 15, the Richmond Art Center will host an opening reception from 5-7pm for its summer exhibitions. The Center's four galleries will showcase works across many media representing the strength and creativity of East Bay and California artists.

Hundreds of local artists from the East Bay and greater Bay Area will be featured in the Annual Members' Show which features works in a variety of media by artists of the Richmond Art Center and the Association of Clay and Glass Artists of California. A select group of artists -- Koko Baker, Mira Benoni, Larry Hatfield, Diana Shaio Keevan, Diane Levinson, Stella Ling and Nancy Rowe -- who won distinction at the 2012 Members' Show will be showcasing multiple pieces of their work in this show.

Richmond Artist Jim Dewitt's will unveil bold and expressive paintings of Bay Area yacht racing in 'Race for the Cup'. Dewitt was the 2012 artist-in-residence at the Golden Gate Yacht Club, the host club for the 34th America's Cup races on San Francisco Bay, and is the winner of the 1963 Clifford Mallory Cup. This timely tribute to the America's Cup race will also feature compelling photographs by Daniel Forster, a pre-eminent photographer of past America's Cup races along with artifacts from previous races.

Oakland artist Bill A. Dallas abstract paintings are featured in 'Artmatism'. Born in Kansas City, Dallas grew up surrounded by Kansas City Blues and Jazz. 'Artmatism' is a term he coined to encompass Abstract Expressionism with his approach of 'painting music' -- a two handed brushless style of painting. Dallas' paintings are full of paint, movement, and color and are based on his emotional, political and musical responses to life.

The summer exhibitions run through August 23. Gallery hours: Tue-Sat from 11am-5pm. The Richmond Art Center is located at 2540 Barrett Avenue, Richmond, CA.
