On Monday, El Cerrito put on the oldest continuous Martin Luther King Jr. celebration in the East Bay for the 24th year to honor the slain civil rights leader — its annual MLK Day Parade.

Like recent years, the parade has drawn many participants, including several students as well as civic and community leaders.

The parade is sponsored by the City of El Cerrito, St. Peter Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, the El Cerrito Branch NAACP and the West Contra Costa County Unified School District, according to a notice about the parade and rally on the Human Relations Commission web page.
