Martin Luther King, Jr. Weekend at Playland-Not-at-the-Beach
10:00 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Join Playland in honoring Dr. King’s impact on American society.  Explore our Museum of Fun with a specially designed treasure hunt.  Test your knowledge of the civil rights leader with our biographical quiz – you just might learn something new.  An extra day to play; we’re open Monday!  ($10 for children and seniors, and $15 for general admission.)

Backyard Fruit Trees - Winter Pruning Workshop

Timed pruning offers a simple and revolutionary approach to fruit tree care: winter prune for shape and summer prune to keep trees small and easy. For first time planters, and pruners in need of a refresher, these hands-on classes cover getting started with fruit trees, the basic mechanics of pruning, pruning for easy harvest, timing seasonal routines, and trouble-shooting pests and disease. ($40)

Inkjet Printing on Fabric Workshop

Learn to print your artwork, images and designs on fabric using your home inkjet printer. This exciting craft opens the door to endless possibilities for creating original fabric to use in quilts, art pieces, gifts, home decor, and much more. (cost is $40 plus a minimal charge for materials used)

Author Talk: Lindy Hough – "Wondrous Child: the Joys and Challenges of Grandparenting"

Kensington Library, 61 Arlington Avenue
Lindy Hough will talk and read from her anthology of 30 essays that honors the intergenerational bond of grandparents and children. A Santa Cruz postpartum doula, a New Hampshire flute-maker, a Zen teacher, a dance therapist, a Sri Lankan film director—these are a few of the grandparents who share their stories in this collection.

New Year Clean Up

Where: Empty lot NW corner San Pablo Avenue and Cutting Boulevard by Freeway Motel, and El Cerrito Plaza BART, Fairmount Avenue and Ohlone Greenway
Join El Cerrito's Green Teams to clean the entryways to town. Keep trash from polluting waterways and create a positive first impression of our city. All ages welcome, 18 with guardian. This is a city sponsored activity and tools are supplied. Rsvp or simply show up. green@ci.el-cerrito.ca.us.

El Cerrito’s 25th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade & Rally
The El Cerrito community will honor Dr. King, share his message and celebrate his life on Monday, January 20, 2014 with a parade and rally. This year marks the twenty-fifth consecutive annual celebration in El Cerrito of the life and work of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The events are free and all ages are welcome. Community members who wish to march in the parade should meet at 9:00 a.m. at the El Cerrito D.M.V. The rally will begin at 10:30 a.m. inside the Performing Arts Center at El Cerrito High School.
