Letter: Library Celebrates Volunteer Day April 28

As you know, we had a very successful volunteer day of service on January 19 when we accomplished much work that has made the El Cerrito Library a more pleasant and useful resource for patrons of all ages.

Some weeks we sent you a "Hold the Date" notice that we are planning another Day of Service: April 28, 2013.

The time has come to make a commitment to helping out again.

The event will happen at the El Cerrito Library, 6510 Stockton Ave., El Cerrito from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Sunday, April 28. You do not need to commit for the whole period, an hour or more is all we ask between those hours.

We are working on Sunday because the library is closed for normal service that day and it will be easier to accomplish our tasks then. Besides, parking is easier at that time.

The goal is to make the El Cerrito Library as attractive and useful to our patrons as possible. We will be doing both inside and outside light maintenance work, including some landscape maintenance work, some work updating and organizing the collection, and, yes, we will probably have to do some more repair to children's books (they get loved and used a lot).

If you are interested in helping us with the gardening and tidying up outside, wear sturdy work clothes, work shoes, and bring your gloves and whatever tools you like to work with: Hoes, shovels, pruning shears, etc. (don't forget to mark them with your name and address so they do not get orphaned).

If you plan to work inside, you need bring only your willingness to help out as you can.

We will have coffee and doughnuts in the morning, will provide a light lunch at noon, and will have water all day long.

If you are planning to join us, please email your intention to come to gjpokorn@lmi.net. Tell us who you are and how many persons will be in your party. This will help us to know how many persons to expect and how many refreshments to buy.

Until we get a new library, we need to make the best of the one we have.
