El Cerrito Residents Walk The Walk

Citizens take a Sunday stroll around town to provide input to city leaders

More than a dozen El Cerrito residents stepped up to provide public input to city officials this weekend.

About 18 citizens participated Sunday afternoon in a 3-mile walking tour of El Cerrito to discuss pedestrian and bicycle safety as well as their favorite and least favorite walking routes in town.

The weekend before, 14 people joined a bicycling tour of the city to provide similar input.

It's all part of an effort to improve transportation and the environment in El Cerrito.

In 2012, the city received a state grant to develop a citywide Urban Greening Plan.

In March, the City Council awarded a contract to MIG Inc. to analyze existing conditions, engage the community and prepare the plan. The walking and bicycling tours were part of that effort.

The city is also developing an Active Transportation Plan with the assistance of Fehr & Peers Transportation Consultants.
