El Cerrito Bicycle Collisions Have Declined in Recent Years

A post on Monday about a new law requiring motorists to give bicyclists three feet of space sparked a discussion about the difficulties that come with sharing the road

To paraphrase one commenter, both bicyclists and motorists have a point when they regard one another as selfish and often reckless. However, bicyclists and motorists in El Cerrito may be learning to live together, or at least not crash into each other.

Numbers provided by the state Office of Traffic Safety show that bicycle collisions in El Cerrito declined between 2009 and 2011. The numbers for 2012 are not yet available.
