Don't Worry... Copper Wind Sculptures Haven't Been Stolen

A couple of the sculptures along San Pablo Avenue have been taken in for repairs because they were squeaking

No worries.

Two of the copper sculptures that hang on light posts along San Pablo Avenue haven't been snatched.

They're simply being revamped because they were making too much noise.

Several Patch readers became alarmed this past week when they noticed the pair of wind sculptures were missing. They even posted comments on the site.

Patch contacted El Cerrito Police Lt. Paul Keith to see what was happening.

Keith said some residents complained earlier this month that one of the sculptures was squeaking.

City workers took down the noisy artwork and sent it to the artist for some retooling.

Keith said he then sent a patrol officer around one evening to check on the other sculptures. Another one was making squeaking sounds, so it too was returned to the artist.

Suzanne Iarla, the city's community outreach specialist, said the two artists commissioned by the city are currently making adjustments to three sculptures.

All three should be back on the light poles by the end of the month. Others will be taken down in November for some retooling.

All 12 wind sculptures will be in place along San Pablo Avenue in October, which is National Arts and Humanities Month.
