After School Japanese Program at Portola Middle Starts End of January

Posted by Nobuko Satake, Japanese Teacher at El Cerrito High School and After School Japanese Program Coordinator

A collaborative After School Japanese Program between El Cerrito High School and Portola Middle School students will start Thursday January 30th and every last Thursday of each month thereafter.  Ms. Maritza Gonzalez-Tellez, a UC Berkeley student, will lead this.  She just came back from Japan after a one semester research study.  She will be a great teacher and mentor to middle school students and I will be there as well to assist.

The Japan Society gave a $500 grant for the Japanese program at El Cerrito High School and we will be able to use some of the fund for this After School Japanese program.  The check for this grant was presented at an award ceremony in San Francisco on January 16. We appreciate very much their generosity and care for our students.

We also appreciate Mr. Burnham, Principal of Portola Middle School, for his openness to new ideas.
