Writing Coaches Needed for El Cerrito Middle and High School Students

WriterCoach Connection (WCC) is currently seeking volunteers to assist El Cerrito middle and high school students with their English writing assignments.  Writer coaches work one-to-one with students at every level of ability. In partnership with teachers, trained writer coaches help students strengthen their writing and critical thinking skills by providing constructive feedback, challenging them to think more deeply and building their confidence as writers.

You don’t need to be a writer or teacher.  WCC coaches are parents, college students, and working and retired people of all backgrounds, ethnicities and ages.  Our in-depth training (provided free of charge) will give you strategies and practice in working with all types of students.  Trainings are offered twice yearly, with the fall trainings set to begin very soon, and registration is now under way.

Now in its fourth year in El Cerrito schools, the WriterCoach program works with students at Portola Middle School and El Cerrito High. This amounts to assisting hundreds of students each year, and community members are integral to this process.  With class sizes of up to 40 students, having this one-to-one attention is more important than ever.

The time commitment is minimal — two hours per week during the school day, two to three times per month — but the results are immense.
