Two Teens Shot on BART Path in El Cerrito

Two teenaged males were wounded, one seriously, shortly before 2 p.m. today, Wednesday, when they were shot by two other young males on the BART path near Fairmont Elementary School and the El Cerrito Library, police said. The two assailants escaped.

Two Albany High School students were shot by two other other young men on the BART path near El Cerrito Library shortly before 2 p.m. today, Wednesday, according to El Cerrito police.

One victim was "seriously" injured while the other's injuries were "superficial," said Capt. Mike Regan. Paramedics were not sure how severely wounded the more seriously injured youth was, he said.

The shooting occurred on the BART path, also known as the Ohlone Greenway, between Stockton and Lincoln avenues. An officer at the scene placed the location about 100 yards south of Stockton, near where Eureka Avenue dead-ends at the greenway.

A parent of a student at Fairmont reported that her daughter was crying in fear after hearing the shots.

The two assailants in black hooded sweatshirts were both believed to have been shooters and escaped, fleeing east on foot on Stockton, police said. They were described as young African-American males in dark clothing, Regan said.
