Shelter-in-Place Lifted as Chevron Refinery Fire Dies Down
The shelter-in-place advisory issued for Richmond, North Richmond and San Pablo followed the fire tonight, Monday, at the Chevron refinery was lifted by county health officials shortly after 11 p.m.
Contra Costa Health Services has lifted the shelter-in-place advisory that was issued Monday following the large refinery fire that broke out at Chevron around 6:30 p.m.
The shelter-in-place alert was lifted shortly after 11 p.m. It had applied to Richmond, North Richmond and San Pablo and had advised residents to remain indoors, to keep all doors and windows closed and to seal all cracks that could admit outside air.
"A controlled burn continues at the refinery but the situation is under control and the shelter-in-place is no longer in effect," Health Services said in a notice issued at 11:12 p.m.

Fumes and smoke from the blaze rose high in the air and covered a wide area. Many people flocked to Doctors Medical Center in San Pablo with respiratory complaints.
Chevron announced that it will hold a town hall meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Richmond Memorial Auditorium, 403 Civic Center Plaza, Richmond.
