Patch Picks: Ways to Celebrate with Dad on Father's Day

This Father's Day, do something different for Dad.

Here are some ideas that could add a breath of fresh air to this Father's Day:

  • Go to Cesar Chavez Park to fly a kite. Try Highline Kites in Berkeley for supplies. Pack a picnic with food, water, a blanket and sunscreen, and you’re ready for a day of wind play and relaxation.
  • Build something with dad. Get supplies at . Whether you create a tiny box, paint a room or affix a new bedroom shelf, there are hundreds of possibilities.
  • Sometimes Dads like chocolate too. Take him to , open Sunday 10 a.m. – 6 p.m, for some dark chocolate nougat, chocolate-covered honeycomb, milk chocolate truffles and many other customizable options.
  • Make ! These versatile sandwiches can be made with lamb, chicken or vegetables, usually marinated with mint, lemon, garlic, lime, olive oil, salt and pepper combinations. Make sure to marinate the meat in advance. Making them together with Dad can be a memory you share for years to come, or a new meal to add to the repertoire.
  • Ride along the  on your bicycles, destination towards Richmond or in the other direction, depending on your preference.
  • Let Dad sit back while you wash his car. Or take his car down to the token-operated on San Pablo and laugh while you dodge suds with a giant brush wand and vacuum who-knows-what-your-brother-or-son ate from under the seat, so he doesn’t have to worry about it.
