Kensington Police Warn of Recent Mail Thefts

KPD is investigating a possible postal employee who may have been stealing from residences. They offer tips to residents to prevent being targeted by this crime.

Kensington Police Department's recently sent out an email warning of a string of mail thefts in the area during the day and asked for the community's help in preventing this crime from continuing.

KPD is investigating a possible postal employee who may have been stealing from residences.

The agency asks for the community's help in the following ways:

  •  When your mail is delivered try and take your mail inside as soon as possible.
  • Install locking mail boxes if possible.
  • Report any suspicious persons loitering around or subjects who are suspiciously unfamiliar to you to the area.
  • Get good descriptions of suspicious and loitering persons.
  • Consider “going green”, and not having documents and personal information sent to your mailbox.

KPD asks residents to call them if they are a victim of mail theft at 510-236-0474 (non-emergecny dispatch) or 510-526-4141 (office). They also recently issued out a brochure on identity theft that offers valuable tips and information on preventing it and what to do if targeted.
