Grease, filmed in 1978, is the all-time top-grossing American movie musical, with domestic box office of $188 million. The sing-along version, which will be shown at the Cerrito on July 14, has also been very successful, with audiences joining in with Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta in such infectious summer tunes as “You’re the One That I Want.”

The movie sizzles, pairing opposites Travolta as the consummate greaser, and Newton-John as the girl-next-door, wrapped up in the torrid '50s atmosphere at Rydell High of cars, clothes, and passion.

The faculty and staff of Rydell High is packed with actors of comic genius, including Sid Caesar, Eve Arden, Joan Blondell, and Dody Goodman. A panoply of classic rock ‘n roll hits is performed by Sha Na Na, and there is a cameo by Franklie Avalon.
