City Seeks Artists and Art Educators, Historians

Commission oversees gallery, Arts in Public Places programs, develops network for visual, literary, performing artists.

The El Cerrito Arts and Culture Commission  is seeking two participants, people with a commitment to the arts -- visual, performing, literary – or to art history or arts education.

They would join five sitting members that include such artists as Ed Franco, who works in a variety of media, and Paul Lupinsky, an architect and painter who has exhibited his work widely.

The panel’s mission is to advise the city council of the needs of the arts and culture community, to support and encourage flourishing and vibrant arts programs and an arts network, and sponsor programs and forums.

If it does its job well, it will help make El Cerrito “an exciting and successful arts and cultural community," according to its website.

Specifically, the commission oversees the Arts in Public Places Program. It also juries the City Hall Gallery Space, located on the second floor of City Hall at 10890 San Pablo Avenue.

I hope that you will include Laura Cunningham's wonderful work. Her book State of Change has many views of El Cerrito - from the long past.
