MONTESSORI FAMILY SCHOOL ANNOUNCES NEW HEAD OF SCHOOL

The Board of Directors of Montessori Family School has selected Henry R. Trevor to succeed founder Jane Wechsler as Head of School upon her retirement. Mr. Trevor will formally begin his duties in July 2012 for the 2012-2013 school year. Montessori Family School has been serving East Bay families with authentic Montessori education programs for over 30 years. At campuses in Berkeley and El Cerrito, the school provides preschool through eighth grade schooling to over 160 students.

“As the current Head of School I am delighted to welcome Henry, [his wife] Elizabeth and their family to our community,” said Ms. Wechsler. Noting that Mr. Trevor “has held practically every possible position in his career in independent, progressive education,” she continued, “I know in my heart that Henry is an excellent fit for MFS. I could not be happier to be able to place our wonderful school in his capable and willing hands.”

Mr. Trevor said that he is “thrilled to be joining the Montessori Family School community.”  He observed that MFS “reflects, of course, the passion, vision, and leadership of founder and Head of School Jane Wechsler, whom I am honored to succeed as head of school.” He added, “I look forward to working closely with Jane, the faculty and administrators, and the Board to manage a smooth and seamless transition.  Jane has been an articulate spokesperson for the value of a Montessori education, and I am committed to continuing the school’s authentic Montessori program.  I hope to be able to build on Jane’s foundation and establish Montessori Family School as a leader in Montessori education.”

Mr. Trevor joins Montessori Family School with over 23 years of teaching and school administration experience. His career spans varied independent school environments and includes creating structure and form at a start-up school as well as maintaining excellence at well-established programs. He earned his undergraduate degree in religious studies at Brown University and a master’s degree in nonprofit management at New York University. He most recently has been serving as the Interim Middle School Director at The Nueva School in Hillsborough, CA.

Montessori Family School Board Chair Bridget Clarke reflected, “We believe that Henry is a wonderful match for our school and our community. On behalf of the Board, I want to express my profound gratitude to the many people who participated in myriad ways in the selection process, especially the very hard-working members of the Head Search Committee and Matt and Risa Heersche of Educational Directions Incorporated.”
